Toys for Tots Drive in Pennsylvania

January 26, 2015

Feeling a sense of need in the local Jenkins Township, Pennsylvania area, staff at the MAXIMUS Eligibility Appeals Operations Support project joined forces with local companies to help spread holiday cheer.

It all began with an e-mail and a sense of community involvement, and ended in a warehouse filled with toys. The project's MAXIMUS Foundation Ambassador encouraged us to show our commitment to local charities. The following day, we received and distributed Toys for Tots boxes. Immediately, our employees heard the call for help and started bringing in their contributions.

The Toys for Tots organization began as a Los Angeles charitable effort in 1947. Its mission is to provide toys for underprivileged children in time for the holidays.  Since it started in the 1940s, Toys for Tots has distributed more than 469 million toys to more than 216 million children.

We are honored to have worked with Toys for Tots this past holiday season. By the end of the toy drive, the boxes were overflowing and there was a feeling of great accomplishment.

Our participation in the 2014 Marine Corps Toys for Tots Challenge was a true community effort. MAXIMUS and other local employers were able to collect more than 70 overflowing cartons of toys and 13 bicycles. The response from our site reflects the generous spirit and willingness to give beyond our families to improve the lives of those around us.

Our first annual Toys for Tots charity drive was a success due to the overwhelming support from our staff. While the holiday season is a great time to be charitable, as MAXIMUS employees, we have the ability to give through the MAXIMUS Foundation year round. The Foundation is made possible by charitable gifts from employees and supplemented by the Company.  I encourage our employees to participate in the $1 CHALLENGE by contributing to the Foundation today via payroll deduction which is matched 100% by the Company.

Nicole O’Malley lives in Madison Township, Pennsylvania with her husband and three children, ages 16, 8 and 5. She has been thankful for her many opportunities since joining MAXIMUS and is proud to be part of the MAXIMUS Foundation, giving back to her community.
