Recently, the MAXIMUS Foundation provided a grant to The Fishing School of the D.C. Metropolitan Area in support of innovative after-school and summer programs that change the lives of 360 elementary and middle school youth.

Started in 1990, The Fishing School still serves its original mission to offer every child a brighter future through educational and enrichment programs. Most children who enter the program for the first time test far below grade level and require extra resources for development. The Fishing School implements STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) lessons to encourage learning through activities that leverage critical thinking, collaboration and skill-building.

Support from the MAXIMUS Foundation helps ensure program sustainability as the Fishing School continues provides the needed resources to children and their parents into the future.

“This fall, The Fishing School will be rolling out an all new program model and expanding our reach to serve even more students and parents”, Executive Director Leo Givs shared. ”Successes like this wouldn’t be possible without the investment of partners like the MAXIMUS Foundation.”
