On June 23, MAXIMUS and the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA) hosted the Transforming Communications with Integrated Health Literacy Strategies webinar. Anita Light, Director of the National Collaborative at APHSA, Doug Howard, Senior Vice President of Business Development at MAXIMUS, and Nicole Donnelly, Director at the MAXIMUS Center for Health Literacy, co-presented on the importance of health literacy strategy for effective communications.

During the webinar, the presenters discussed the importance of literacy, provided real life lessons and examples related to health and human services, and shared practical tips to use in everyday communications. The presentation also included a list of questions to ask when creating materials to ensure that they are easy for readers to both read and understand.

Examples of these questions included:

  • Does the material anticipate readers’ questions and concerns?
  • Is the content arranged in an order that makes sense to readers?
  • Does it fit with readers’ experience, culture and background knowledge?

To find out more considerations and tips on how you can transform your communications with health literacy strategies, download the slides or watch the full recorded webinar here.
